DOEVENTS Function Does Not Yield CPU to Other Processes

SYMPTOMS

A program compiled in Visual Basic for MS-DOS that uses the DOEVENTS function does not yield the CPU to other processes or programs. This can cause problems when using certain types of network software or other programs that do background processing.

The DOEVENTS function in Visual Basic for MS-DOS is designed to yield the CPU to other events within the current program. It can be used to simulate multi-tasking within your own application.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Standard and Professional Editions of Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
