ALTSETUP.BAT Does Not Create NEW-VARS.BAT

ID: Q94693

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual Basic Standard and Professional Editions for MS-DOS, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The NEW-VARS.BAT batch file mentioned on page 3 of the "Microsoft Visual Basic Programming System for MS-DOS Programmers Guide" is not created by the ALTSETUP.BAT program as it should be. Instead, the SETUP.EXE program correctly creates the NEW-VARS.BAT file.

The NEW-VARS.BAT batch file contains three MS-DOS SET statements that set the PATH, INCLUDE, and LIB environment variables. The following is an example of a NEW-VARS.BAT file:

   SET PATH=C:\VBDOS\;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS
   SET INCLUDE=C:\VBDOS\;C:\C700\INCLUDE
   SET LIB=C:\VBDOS\;C:\C700\LIB
Note that all the INCLUDE files and LIB files are assumed to be in the VBDOS directory on drive C.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Standard and Professional Editions of Microsoft Visual Basic version 1.0 for MS-DOS. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
