FIX: CopyWeb to Different Server Incorrectly Names Default Doc

SYMPTOMS

When using the CopyWeb feature in Visual InterDev, the default document name of the Web project is renamed to a different filename.

CAUSE

Visual InterDev 1.0 using the FrontPage Server Extensions incorrectly renames the default document to the name of the default document on the new server. If multiple documents are specified in the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) setting, the default document is renamed to the value of the actual setting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in Microsoft Visual InterDev 1.0. This bug has been fixed in Visual InterDev 6.0 and in FrontPage 2000.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. Using Visual InterDev, create a Web project on machine A with Microsoft IIS and the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.



2. Start the Microsoft Internet Service Manager on machine A. Switch to the Directories tab and note the setting for the default document. By Default, this is set to default.htm.



3. Create a file in your Web project and give it the same name as noted in step #2.



4. On a separate machine (machine B) with Microsoft IIS and the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, change the default document setting in IIS to something different (for example: default.asp).



5. Using Visual InterDev, select Project|Copy Web from the menu and copy the Web to machine B.
