PRB: Controls within Frames Are Not Supported

SYMPTOMS

When you insert an MS Forms 2.0 Frame in an .alx file, the following error message appears:

This control does not support a persistence format compatible with HTML, and cannot be saved. Please contact the manufacturer of the control for an updated version.
Click OK to close the message. Insert a command button (or any other control) into the Frame. When the .alx is closed and reopened, the Frame appears, but the button no longer appears in the frame.


CAUSE

The MS Forms 2.0 Frame control does not support a persistence format compatible with HTML.


RESOLUTION

MS Forms 2.0 Frame is not supported in VID. The user can draw a border around several controls and write code to emulate what the frame would do.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create an .alx file.


  2. Insert a Microsoft Forms 2.0 frame.


  3. Insert a control within the frame.


  4. Save and close the .alx file.


  5. Reopen the .alx file.


  6. The controls inserted into the frame no longer appear.
