  • Microsoft Visual Database Tools, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

RESOLUTION

Re-create the indexes and relationships when re-ordering fields in a table.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Use the following steps in the Schema Designer:
  1. Open a table -- in design mode -- that has an index on one of the fields.

  2. Open the Property page for the table.

  3. Pin the Property page for ease of viewing the behavior.

  4. Click the Index/Keys tab.

  5. To better see the problem, select an index from the list. When you cut the field from the table, you will see the index disappear from the list.

  6. Highlight the associated field in the Table Designer.

  7. Cut the column using the CTRL+X keys.

  8. Paste the column in a different field position than from where it came from using the CTRL+V keys.

In the Property page, notice that the associated index is gone and was not replaced when the field was pasted back into the table definition.
