PRB: GPF or IPF When Using Wizards in Visual InterDev

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

Trying to access a wizard in Visual InterDev causes either a General Protection Fault or an Invalid Page Fault. This problem can occur in any of the wizards.


CAUSE

A corrupt or missing registry key has been reported to cause this error.


RESOLUTION

WARNING: Modifying the registry incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT/95 to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of the information supplied here can be solved. Use this information at your own risk.

In most cases, re-registering the Wizard DLLs fixes the problem.

Use the following steps to re-register the Wizard DLLs:

  1. Copy the registry keys below, and paste them into Notepad.


  2. Save the file as Vid_fix.reg.


  3. Run Vid_fix.reg by either double-clicking on the file in the Explorer or typing the file name in the Run dialog box from the Start menu. Running the REG file correctly re-registers the wizard DLLs.
