BUG: Multi-selecting File and Folder Adds File Only

SYMPTOMS

When you add files to a Web project, you cannot add both folders and files that exist in the same hierarchy with a single button.

The Add dialog box allows you to select both folders and files. However, the Open and Add Folder buttons only add the selected files or folders respectively.


RESOLUTION

Add files with the Add files dialog box, and then add folders separately.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open the Add Item dialog box for a Web project.


  2. Click the Existing tab.


  3. Use Ctrl+click to select a file and a folder.


  4. Click Open.


RESULT: The file is added to the Web project. EXPECTED RESULT: Both the file and the folder should be added.

NOTE: In step 4, if you choose Add Folder rather than Open you can only add the folder.
