FIX: HTA App (IE 5 Behaviors) Debugging Shuts Down IE 5

ID: Q224937

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to debug .hta files (HTML applications) from Visual InterDev, the debugger might not recognize the .hta file. The browser might also close and debugging might shut down unexpectedly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Add a .hta file to a Visual InterDev project.

  2. Set the .hta file to be the Start page.

  3. Choose Start from the menu or press F5.

  4. If prompted by IE, choose "Open this file."

The .hta application launches but does not appear in the list of processes to attach to for debugging. The browser might also close and shut down if that is the only application you are trying to attach to.
