  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Visual Database Tools, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

In Visual InterDev 6.0, setting the timeout values for queries run in Visual Data Tools has no effect. As a result, queries run against large data sets can timeout.

CAUSE

Visual InterDev does not pass the timeout settings in Data Tools under Options on the Tools menu to the Visual Data Tools query pane.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3. For more information about Visual Studio service packs, please see the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

These timeouts are unrelated to ADO timeout queries for an Active Server Page.

In Visual InterDev 6.0:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, then select Data Tools.

  2. Choose Data View.

  3. Change SQL query timeout to 1 second.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Connect to a large database table.

  6. Select the Data View pane, then double-click a table and execute a query that would take longer than 1 second.
