BUG: SourceMachine and TargetMachine May Be Unavailable in the Graphic Filter Editor

ID: Q242465

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual Studio, Enterprise Edition 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When using Visual Studio Analyzer, machine names that appear in the SourceMachine or TargetMachine field in an event log might not be available for filtering in the graphical Filter Editor.

RESOLUTION

If the machine name that you require is not available in the graphical Filter Editor, use the textual Filter Editor to create your filter.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

A machine name will be unavailable in the graphical Filter Editor if that machine was not connected to while recording events. This will occur if an event source overrides the default SourceMachine or TargetMachine parameters. For example, the target machine in an event from the COMTI Event Source will not appear in the graphical Filter Editor.
