Replication of License Manager Information Unsuccessful

ID: Q198132

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

Information from the Microsoft License Logging service (LLS) may not be replicated from a licensing server, in either Per Seat or Per Server mode, to the License Master server. When this occurs, Event Viewer may contain the following error message:

   Error: 213
   Source: License Manager
Description: Replication of license information failed because the
license logging service on server <servername> could not be contacted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the LLS on one server cannot communicate with a License Master server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, verify that the LLS server can establish a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) connection with the License Master server over the network. You may need to perform basic network troubleshooting to diagnose and correct any problems preventing the two servers from establishing the necessary communication link.

To work around this issue and prevent the error messages from being written to Event Viewer, you can stop the LLS. To do this click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services. Double-click License Logging Service, click Disabled, click OK, and then click Close.
