SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade to Windows 2000 from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you do not have the option to map a drive or use a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name to specify the location of a Migration Extension Interface (Migration.dll). CAUSETo resolve some compatibility problems with programs and device drivers, Windows 2000 Setup has a Migration Extension Interface (also called Migration.dll or "Upgrade Pack") that program vendors and corporate developers can use to resolve program compatibility issues during an upgrade of a Windows 95 or Windows 98 installation to Windows 2000 Professional. Vendors can use this interface to add Windows 2000-specific binaries to the current installation, migrate registry settings to Windows 2000, move files to different locations, and if necessary, provide users with information about how to resolve specific compatibility issues. RESOLUTIONTo use a manufacturer-provided Migration Extension Interface, map a network drive to the computer hosting the Migration Extension Interface before running Windows 2000 Setup.
