Cannot Boot After Installing on Drive Connected to PCMCIA SCSI Adapter

SYMPTOMS

If you install Windows 2000 on an external SCSI drive connected to a PCMCIA SCSI adapter or on a drive in a docking station, the computer may not boot after the initial portion of Setup finishes.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because there is not yet a standard to allow booting from a PCMCIA device, although a few new computers support this feature.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows 2000 does support installing on and booting from removable media, but does not allow installation to PCMCIA AT disks.

Do not install Windows 2000 on a drive in a docking station, or on a drive connected using a PCMCIA SCSI adapter.
