Can Not Boot After Replacing Adaptec AHA-2940 with AHA-2940AU

SYMPTOMS
After you replace your Adaptec AHA-2940 Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) adapter with an Adaptec AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter and then restart your computer, you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE
This issue can occur if all of the following conditions exist:
- Your Windows 2000-based computer is configured to use a SCSI hard disk attached to an Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI adapter as the boot disk.
- You replaced your Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI adapter with an AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter while your computer was turned off.
The Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI adapter and AHA-2940AU SCSI adapters both use the same Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Vendor ID, but not the same Device ID. When you replace your Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI adapter with an AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter while your computer is turned off, Windows 2000
is not aware of the change to the boot device's Device ID. Because of this change, Windows 2000 is not able to find the the new boot device when you start your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue:
- Remove the AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter, reinstall your AHA-2940 SCSI adapter, and connect your boot disk to it to make your computer bootable again.
- Restart your computer to verify that your computer is bootable, and then shut down your computer.
- Install the AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter without any devices attached to it, and then start your computer.
- When Windows 2000 detects your new AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter, follow the instructions on the screen to finish installing it.
- Shut down your computer, and then move the connections to your SCSI devices from the AHA-2940 SCSI adapter to the AHA-2940AU SCSI adapter.
- Remove the AHA-2940 SCSI adapter, and then restart your computer.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
