Additional Page is Printed with "Error Undefined" Message

SYMPTOMS

When you print a test page or document to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) PaintJet XL300 printer, an additional PostScript error page is printed with the following error message:

Error: Undefined


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Send CTRL-D After Each Job option is enabled in the printer's properties.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.


  2. Click the PaintJet printer, and then click Properties on the File menu.


  3. Click the Device Settings tab.


  4. Click Send CTRL-D After Each Job, and then click No in the list box.


  5. Click OK.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.


MORE INFORMATION

This is one of the few printer models that does not accept ^D at the end of a print job. Instead, you must disable this functionality in the printer's properties.
