Real Player G2: Pointer Shadow Enabled Causes Purple Shadow from Pointer over Video Screen.

ID: Q211299

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you drag the mouse pointer over the RealPlayer G2 while video is running, a bright purple streak will appear where the pointer passed over the RealPlayer G2.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by an interaction between the color key and the cursor shadow. When the cursor passes over the RealPlayer, the color key values are modified. What you are seeing is the blended color instead of the video screen. The same effect should be observed if a "fading menu" item passes over the RealPlayer as it is using the same technology.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, turn off the mouse shadow feature.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
