SYMPTOMSWhen you install Windows 2000, the Accton 1207D network adapter is detected and installed as an SMC TX network adapter. The network adapter works correctly, although the wrong adapter is displayed. CAUSE
When Windows 2000 enumerates a device it depends upon the PCI vendor and Device ID to determine what device is installed. If no unique subvendor ID is supplied, Windows 2000 uses the first device driver that matches the PCI Device ID. Both network adapters use the PCI and Vendor primary ID for the DEC/Intel DC-21140 chip. %EN1207.DeviceDesc%= 21140.ndi,PCI\VEN_1011&DEV_0009&SUBSYS_12071113SMC TX IDs: %SMC9332bdt.DeviceDesc% = 21140.ndi,PCI\VEN_1011&DEV_0009&SUBSYS_200110B8 RESOLUTIONUse the Windows 2000 Add/Remove Hardware wizard to remove the incorrect network adapter and install the correct one.
