SYMPTOMSYou cannot install Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) and Client Services for NetWare (CSNW) in the same way as you do other optional networking components by using the Windows Component Wizard. CAUSEGSNW (in Windows 2000 Server) and CSNW (in Windows 2000 Professional) are redirector and provider components for connectivity to NetWare networks. When GSNW is installed on a Windows 2000 server, the server can act as an NCP gateway to NetWare networks, allowing Microsoft (SMB) clients access to NetWare resources using the gateway. When CSNW is installed on a Windows 2000 Professional-based computer, the computer can function as an NCP client, and can directly access resources on NetWare networks. Both GSNW and CSNW use NWLink IPX/SPX as the underlying protocol stack for connectivity to NetWare networks. Installing either GSNW or CSNW automatically installs the NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport protocol. RESOLUTION
Because it is necessary to control whether GSNW or CSNW is installed and bound or unbound on a particular connection interface, these components cannot be installed using the Windows Component Wizard. Instead, they are installed using the Local Area Connection tool. After installation, these components are configured using the GWNW or CSNW tool in Control Panel. Configuration information for GSNW or CSNW in Control Panel is retained in the user's profile (saved on a per-user basis). The installation of GSNW or CSNW is not user-specific, but is global for the computer. Additional query words:
