Redirecting the My Documents Folder for All Users in Windows 2000

SUMMARY

You can use a group policy to redirect the My Documents folder to a different network path on the domain for all users without having to set up an individual policy for each user.

  1. On a domain controller, click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK to start Microsoft Management Console (MMC).


  2. On the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.


  3. Add the Group Policy snap-in.


  4. Click Default Domain Policy.


  5. Expand the User Configuration branch.


  6. Expand the Windows Settings branch.


  7. Expand the Folder Redirection branch.


  8. Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties.


  9. Click Basic.


  10. In the Target Folder Location box, set the path as \\servername\sharename\%username%


This redirects the users' My Documents folder to a folder on the network that is created automatically based on the user name.
