SYMPTOMSWhen you create a second Active Directory Integrated Domain Name System (DNS) zone server, the new server may overwrite existing zone data. CAUSEThis behavior can occur if a new domain controller is created, DNS is installed immediately, and a zone for an existing zone is created as an Active Directory Integrated zone. In this case, replication does not get a chance to propagate the data to the new domain controller. As a result, the new domain controller assumes it needs to create a new copy. RESOLUTIONTo work around this problem, wait for the replication cycle to complete before manually creating the DNS zone. The zone information is automatically pulled from the original DNS server. If the zone already exists, Directory Service Replication brings the zone information back to its proper state after a period of time. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. Additional query words:
