Power Options Tool in Control Panel Renamed to UPS After Upgrade

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, the Power Options tool in Control Panel may be renamed to UPS.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because a file named Ups.cpl is left over after the upgrade.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the Ups.cpl file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
