Modem Test Passes When No Modem Is Installed

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Net Diag tool to perform a diagnostic test on your modem, the test may pass even if a modem is not attached to your computer.


CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Net Diag tool does not query the modem.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

The Net Diag tool is included with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit and is also located in the Support\Reskit\Diagnose folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
