Windows 2000 Fax Service Is Not Shareable

SYMPTOMS

Although the Windows 2000 Fax service does have a Sharing tab, you cannot share the Fax service. If you click the Sharing tab, you receive the message "Sharing is not supported."

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Fax service is a client component for the local computer only; it cannot be used as a fax server for the network.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install a modem in a Windows 2000-based computer, the Fax service is enabled by default. The service is a core component and cannot be removed. This client-only component is not the same as the network fax components in Microsoft Small Business Server.
