Folder with Custom Settings Cannot Be Deleted at Command Prompt

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt at a command prompt to delete a folder that has been customized using the Customize This Folder option, you may receive the following response:

Access denied


CAUSE

This behavior is caused by the presence of a hidden folder named Folder Settings in the folder you want to remove.


RESOLUTION

To remove the Folder Settings folder, use either of the following methods:

  • Remove the custom folder settings in Windows Explorer by clicking Customize This Folder on the View menu, clicking Next, and then clicking Remove Customizations.


  • Remove the System and Read-Only attributes of the Folder Settings folder at the command prompt.
