SYMPTOMSWindows 2000 Beta 2 uses two registry values that relate to Domain Name Server (DNS) registrations that are not valid in builds of Windows 2000 after Beta 2. MORE INFORMATIONThe following registry values are not valid in builds of Windows 2000 after Beta 2: RegisterBeta2DnsType: REG_DWORDData value: 0x1 Enabled (TRUE) Data value: 0x0 Disabled (FALSE) Default data value: 0x1 (TRUE) This value is located in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\ParametersThis value specifies that a domain controller is to register DNS names that are compatible with Windows 2000 Beta 2. If all clients have been upgraded to Windows 2000 Beta 3 or later, this flag may be set to FALSE, and this prevents the domain controller from registering older names. Note that in builds of Windows 2000 after Beta 2, this flag should not exist. UseBeta2DnsType: REG_DWORDData value: 0x1 Enabled (TRUE) Data value: 0x0 Disabled (FALSE) Default data value: 0x1 (TRUE) This value is located in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\ParametersThis value specifies that a client calling DsGetDcName is not to use the DNS names that are compatible with Windows 2000 Beta 2. If all domain controllers have been upgraded to Windows 2000 Beta 3 or later, this flag may be set to FALSE. This saves the client time from querying these older names. Additional query words: 2000
