SUMMARY

This article describes how to install and configure Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) on a Windows 2000 server.

MORE INFORMATION

GSNW enables a Windows 2000 server to function as a NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) gateway for Microsoft (Server Message Block [SMB]) clients. GSNW provides the ability for SMB clients to directly access NetWare file and print resources without requiring additional software.

To install GSNW on a Windows 2000 server, use the Local Area Connection tool. Installing GSNW also installs NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS-Compatible Transport Protocol. Installing the Directory Services Migration tool (DSMigrate) on a Windows 2000 server installs both GSNW and the NWLink protocol.

GSNW can be configured using the GSNW tool in Control Panel. To map and configure shares to NetWare resources, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then double-click GSNW.

  2. In the Configure Gateway dialog box, click Gateway.

  3. Click the Enable Gateway check box to select it.

  4. Specify the credentials for a user account that is a member of the NTGateway group. The NTGateway group must be created on the NetWare network. NetWare resources are available to SMB clients using GSNW only through the NTGateway group.

  5. Add a NetWare share by typing a share name and a network path, and then set the appropriate share permissions.

  6. Click OK.

NOTE: If the Enable Gateway check box is cleared after a share is configured, all share information (share name, network path, and share permissions) is removed.

To prevent share information from being removed, you can disable GSNW for a particular interface by unbinding the GSNW client using the Local Area Connection tool.
