Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) is a component of Windows 2000 Server that enables the server to function as an NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) gateway for Service Member Block (SMB) clients. GSNW allows Microsoft clients to directly access NetWare file and print resources using the gateway, without the need for any additional software installed on the Microsoft clients.

MORE INFORMATION

GSNW can be installed on a Windows 2000 server by adding the component as a client in the Local Area Connection tool. Installing GSNW also installs NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol.

Installing the Directory Services Migration tool (DSMigrate) on a Windows 2000 server installs both GSNW and NWLink.Gateway shares to NetWare resources are configured using the GSNW tool in Control Panel.

Share names are limited to 12 characters. This fact should be considered when you plan naming conventions for gateway shares.
