  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Directory Services Migration (DSMigrate) tool in Windows 2000 Server, you are prompted for a preferred server or default tree and context.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the DSMigrate tool installs Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol.

RESOLUTION

To continue installing the DSMigrate tool, specify a preferred server or default tree and context for the currently logged on user.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The DSMigrate tool utilizes GSNW (redirector/provider) and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol to provide connectivity for the migration of NetWare objects into the Active Directory directory service. The DSMigrate tool does not function if these additional components are not properly installed and running.
