SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to apply a snapshot taken with the Sysdiff tool, you may receive the following error message:

A snapshot or diff file specified on the command line was created with a different user and can not be used now.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you are logged on as a user other than the user who created the Sysdiff snapshot when you attempt to apply the snapshot to a computer.

RESOLUTION

To apply a Sysdiff snapshot when you are logged on as a user other than the user who created the snapshot, use the following syntax:

sysdiff /apply /m [/log: log_file] difference_file
The /m command-line parameter causes the file changes to be mapped to the default user profile structure, rather than to the profile structure for the user logged on when the difference file was created.
