Directory Services Migration Tool Installs GSNW If No NetWare Provider Exists

ID: Q221601

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SUMMARY

Installing the Directory Services Migration (DSMigrate) tool automatically installs both Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol if a NetWare provider/redirector is not already installed on the computer. While you are installing the DSMigrate tool, there is no indication that a NetWare provider/redirector is required or that GSNW and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol is installed if a NetWare provider/redirector is not already installed. The only indication that GSNW is installed is when you are prompted for a preferred server or default tree and context.

MORE INFORMATION

The DSMigrate tool utilizes GSNW (redirector/provider) and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol to provide connectivity for the migration of NetWare objects into the Active Directory directory service. The DSMigrate tool does not function if these additional components are not properly installed and running.
