SYMPTOMSWhen you select a NetWare source on which you have not been authenticated while you are in the process of discovering a view from NetWare, you receive an authentication prompt. This prompt may contain an invalid example for a user name (" user.ou.ou.o"). This syntax is correct for NDS trees, but is invalid for bindery servers. CAUSEThis is a context-specific syntax for NDS. The Directory Services Migration tool (Dsmigrate) does not make specific provision for bindery syntax in this instance. RESOLUTIONIf you are authenticating against a bindery source, type a user name with appropriate credentials for that bindery server, along with the user's password. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATIONDsmigrate is a migration tool included with Windows 2000 Server that allows for non-destructive, off-line, migration of user objects and files from NetWare (both NDS and bindery) to Windows 2000 Active Directory directory services.
