The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you run the Add Printer Wizard and select the "Local Printer" and "Automatically Detect My Printer" options, the wizard closes and returns you to the Printers folder if no printer is detected. CAUSEAfter you select these options and then click Next, the following dialog box states: Windows is attempting to detect your printer. If it is not found, you will need to rerun the Add Printer Wizard.You can then click Yes or No. If you click Yes and your printer is not detected, you are returned to the Printers folder. RESOLUTIONRun the Add Printer Wizard again and do not select the "Automatically Detect my Printer" option. You can then manually specify your printer. STATUSThis behavior is by design. MORE INFORMATIONIf your printer is not detected, the "Automatically Detect My Printer" check box is cleared by default. After you restart your computer, the check box is selected again by default.
