SYMPTOMSIf you configure your Windows 2000-based computer to use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to receive an IP address, a BOOTP server sending a DHCPOFFER packet may result in an "access violation" error message similar to: You then receive the following error message:
CAUSEThis behavior is caused by a null value in the Subnet field in the DHCPOFFER packet. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, verify that the DHCP server is configured to send a valid subnet mask.
