Unknown Device in Device Manager After Upgrading Fujitsu M794i

ID: Q222977

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a Fujitsu M794i from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, a device of type "unknown" may appear in the Other section in Device Manager. When you view the properties of this device, it is displayed as a "Base System Device."

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Plug and Play detection receives a primary Plug and Play ID of 1166, which corresponds to a Reliance computer. A subsidiary ID of 0100 is detected, which corresponds to a Chille Pakora 10APK/Arbiter.

RESOLUTION

The Chille Pakora is a dual 16-entry I/O APIC dual-PCI arbiter. It requires no device driver and should not appear in Device Manager. Because no device driver is needed, you can ignore the error status.
