  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message:

Could not start the Task Scheduler service on local computer. The service has returned a service-specific error code.

Error 2147750678:
When this occurs, the following event is registered in the System log in Event Viewer:
Event ID: 7024
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The Task Scheduler service terminated with service-specific error 2147750678.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Log On As service account specified is not the local system account.

RESOLUTION

The LocalSystem account must be used to start the Task Scheduler service properly in Windows 2000. Scheduled jobs can use different user credentials.

To run legacy jobs under different user account in Windows 2000:

  1. While you are logged on as an administrator, start the Scheduled Tasks tool in Control Panel.

  2. On the Advanced menu, click AT Service Account.

  3. Click This Account.

  4. In the This Account box, type the correct domain\user name information.

  5. Type the full password and confirm it as needed, and then click OK. For your new scheduling needs, use the Task Wizard included with Windows 2000.

This behavior has been improved to be more flexible for users needing the ability to run several scheduled tasks under unique user credentials.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
