3COM OfficeConnect Network Devices Reset Unexpectedly

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the router functions of any of the following 3COM network devices, you may be unable to do so:

  • OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem (3C891 S/T-interface)


  • OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem (3C892 U-interface)


  • OfficeConnect 56K LAN Modem (3C886)


Also, other network functionality may work correctly.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if your Windows 2000-based computer leases an Internet Protocol (IP) address by using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). This can cause the 3COM network devices listed earlier in this article to reset.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact 3COM to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, configure your Windows 2000-based computer to use a static IP address.
