SUMMARY
When a Windows 2000 client recalls a file that has been archived to off-line storage by the Remote Storage Server service, a "Recall in progress" notice appears on the screen stating that the file is being recalled from off-line storage.
When you browse the same shares using a Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 client, these attributes do not appear, and when you attempt to open the shares, you do not receive the "Recall in progress" message.
MORE INFORMATIONThis behavior occurs because these down-level clients do not understand the returned NTFS attribute associated with the underlying structure of the reparse point that is left when the file is migrated to off-line storage. The clients can recall files, but there may be high latency in retrieving them, without notice. Additional query words: RSS HSM recalling
