SYMPTOMSWhen you are using a Windows 2000 Remote Install Service (RIS) server to perform a remote installation to a Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) client computer, you may receive the following error message NOTE: The long number in the GUID_number.sif file name is unique to every PXE client and varies from client to client. CAUSEThis is usually caused by a syntax error in the Setup Information File (SIF) associated with the image you are trying to install. RESOLUTIONThe SIF files are stored in the RIS server's templates folder. Review the associated image's SIF file for accuracy. The default path to the templates folder containing SIF files is: RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\Win2000.pro\I386\TemplatesTo view the actual SIF file displayed in the error message, open the GUID_number.sif file in the RemoteInstall\Tmp folder using Notepad. Although you may be able to determine what is wrong with the SIF file by viewing it here, any changes to correct the syntax need to be performed on the original SIF file in the templates folder. Once changes are made to the SIF file and saved, you must restart the client so it can use the updated SIF file during the next installation attempt. Additional query words:
