"No Sounds" Scheme Does Not Exist for Pre-Existing Users

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 Server to Windows 2000, pre-existing users cannot select the No Sounds option in the Scheme box on the Sounds tab in the "Sounds and Multimedia" tool in Control Panel.

Note that this behavior occurs only with pre-existing users. New users who are added after you upgrade to Windows 2000 can select the No Sounds option.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
