SUMMARY

This article describes the changes you can make in the Dial-Up Networking connection window.

MORE INFORMATION

When the Dial-Up Networking connection window is displayed, you see the string of numbers that you dial to make the connection. This string of numbers is based upon the connection's area code, phone number and the application of any relevant area code or dialing rules.

If you edit this string of numbers in the connection window, and then click Yes when you are prompted with the question Make the phone number change permanent?, you make the following changes to the connection properties:

  • The entire phone number string becomes the Dial-Up Networking connection's phone number.
  • The Area Code box is cleared.
  • The Use area code and dialing rules check box is cleared.
  • The connection dials the string of numbers as they are displayed.
If you want to edit the the string of numbers, but you do not want to change the Dial-Up Networking settings, click No when you are prompted with the question Make the phone number change permanent?
