SYMPTOMS

Windows 2000 may misidentify a Hayes Accura 336 internal Plug and Play modem as a Practical Peripherals V.34-336 internal modem.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Hayes Accura 336 internal Plug and Play modem has the same Plug and Play ID as the Practical Peripherals modem.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you may want to contact the modem's manufacturer to inquire about an update that resolves this issue.

As a workaround, disable the Plug and Play features on the modem and then manually choose the modem using the Phone and Modem Options tool in Control Panel.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
