SYMPTOMSWhen you administer devices using the Computer Management snap-in, you may receive the following message: Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer. To uninstall devices or to change device properties or drivers, you must run Device Manager on the computer where you wish to make changes. CAUSEThis behavior can occur if you use "localhost" instead of the local computer name. This causes the connection to be treated as a remote connection. RESOLUTIONTo work around this behavior, use the actual computer name or Internet Protocol (IP) address instead of localhost. MORE INFORMATIONLocalhost and local are treated as valid computer names.
