DSMigrate Discover Process Drops User Accounts from Group Membership List

ID: Q227209

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Directory Service Migration tool (DSMigrate) to discover a view from NetWare, user accounts may be dropped from group memberships.

CAUSE

DSMigrate does not discover any group object if its name name conflicts with another previously discovered object. Also, user objects or group objects with invalid names are not discovered.

RESOLUTION

Make sure to confirm group memberships before and after configuring (migrating) objects to Active Directory by viewing the properties of the particular group object in question. While objects in a view are offline (before configuring to use Active Directory), use the Members tab in the group object's Properties dialog box to add or remove user objects.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
