Hardware Not Detected by Device Manager in Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 2000 and you use hardware drivers designed for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, the devices that use those drivers are not displayed in Device Manager.


CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Windows 2000 Device Manager tool does not detect and register hardware that uses drivers for Windows NT 4.0.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use the Add/Remove Hardware tool to install the hardware drivers written specifically for Windows 2000.

To obtain the latest drivers for your hardware, contact your hardware manufacturer.

This behavior is by design.
