'Error: Undefined' Printing Postscript Using HP PaintJet XL300

SYMPTOMS

When you print a postscript test document using the Hewlett-Packard (HP) PaintJet XL300 printer, you may receive an 'Error: Undefined' error message.


CAUSE

This issue can occur because the HP PaintJet XL300 printer does not understand the ^D character combination at the end of the print job.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure Windows to not send a ^D character combination at the end of each postscript print job:

  1. Open the Printer folder, right-click the printer you are using, and then click Properties.


  2. On the Device Setting tab, click No in the Send CTRL-D After Each Job box.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
