SUMMARY

In earlier versions of Windows NT, if you use the Xcopy command with the /r switch, you are not prompted to confirm overwriting a read-only file.

In Windows 2000, the Xcopy command prompts you to confirm overwriting a read-only file.

MORE INFORMATION

When you want to silently overwrite read-only files, use the /y switch. This switch is useful in scripting and batch files where you do not want to be prompted to overwrite read-only files.
