SYMPTOMSWhen you view the Windows 2000 Setup error log (Setuperr.log) file after an upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you may see the following entries:
CAUSEThis issue can occur if you do not have a modem installed, or if your modem is not properly detected. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install a Windows 2000-compatible modem. If you have a modem installed, and it is not properly detected, contact the modem's manufacturer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue. STATUSThis behavior is by design. MORE INFORMATIONDuring the installation or upgrade process, Windows 2000 Setup tries to install fax support. If you do not have a modem installed, or your modem is not detected properly, Setup adds the appropriate entries to the Setuperr.log file. This message only applies to installation of the Fax subsystem; it has nothing to do with any printer you may have installed. Additional query words:
