  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing a new monitor that is not recognized by Windows 2000, the proper monitor type cannot be selected because the monitor type is missing in the Add/Remove Hardware wizard.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because monitors are Plug and Play devices that must be enumerated by a video adapter.

RESOLUTION

NOTE: You should obtain a driver from the monitor's manufacturer to use the following steps.

To list the proper monitor in the device menu:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Display, and then click the Settings tab.

  3. Click Advanced, and then click the Monitor tab.

  4. Click Properties, and then click the Driver tab.

  5. Click Update Driver, and then click Next.

  6. Click Display a list of the known drivers, and then click Next.

  7. If you have a manufacturer-supplied driver disk, click Have Disk, and then provide the location of the drivers. Otherwise, click Show all hardware of this device class.

  8. Click the appropriate items manufacturer and model, and then click Next.

  9. If you receive an Update Driver Warning dialog box, click Yes if you still want to use the driver you selected.

  10. Click Next to continue. Supply the Windows 2000 CD-ROM if needed.

  11. Click Finish to quit the Wizard.

  12. Close the Monitor Properties dialog box, and then click OK to close the Advanced Display Properties dialog box.

  13. Click OK to close Display properties.

  14. Close Control Panel.

  15. Reboot if you are prompted to do so.

STATUS
