SUMMARY

The Windows 2000 Disk Defragmenter tool is based on Executive Software's full retail version of Diskeeper. The version included with Windows 2000 provides limited functionality in maintaining disk performance by defragmenting volumes that use the FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file system.

This version has the following limitations:

  • Can defragment only local volumes


  • Can defragment only one volume at a time


  • Cannot defragment one volume while scanning another


  • Cannot be scripted


  • Cannot be scheduled


  • Can run only one Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in at a time
