DVD Programs Do Not Start MCI-DVD on Windows 2000

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to play games from a DVD-ROM, you may receive the following error message:

MCI error opening file f:XXX\XXXX\XXXX.VOB: A problem occured in initializing MCI.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because programs using the MCI-DVD interface are not supported in Windows 2000. Also, Windows 2000 does not support the MCI-DVD driver.

STATUS

Most third-party companies now use DShow instead of MCI-DVD.
